Through my work in Early Years and Key Stage 1, I have supported children in developing the core skills and learning behaviours that underpin success in 4+ and 7+ style entry assessments and the skills to ensure a smooth transition into the latter part of key Stage 1 and into Key Stage 2. This includes nurturing early literacy, phonics, number sense, listening skills, attention, and confidence within the classroom environment.
I have also taken a strong interest in understanding the expectations and learning profiles of selective and independent schools and I reflect these standards in my planning and practice. My focus is on helping children become secure, curious and resilient learners who feel confident approaching new challenges and assessments.
My approach is always child-centred, ensuring that preparation feels purposeful, positive and developmentally appropriate rather than pressured.
I am a PSHE Lead, with a strong focus on emotional literacy, motivation, promoting a growth mindset and the Zones of Regulation. I believe that children need to understand their feelings, behaviours and thinking in order to thrive in school and in assessments. I support children in developing the tools they need to be self-motivated, resilient and reflective learners. I am very experienced and well positioned to support young children who are struggling at school, either academically or with their confidence. I pride myself on my ability to help students to fulfil their full potential through tailored tutoring to meet their personal goals and needs. I am also very experienced in supporting SEND students with varying needs, including, but not limited to, ASD, ADHD and dyslexia.
I am also passionate about phonics and early reading. I place great importance on building strong decoding skills, language comprehension and a love of reading from the very start of a child’s learning journey. My knowledge and experience in early reading and phonics can be really beneficial to dyslexic learners who are having challenges accessing the full curriculum, due to decoding and reading difficulties. Often children in later primary years benefit from recapping and mastering the skills for EYFS and KS1, to ensure they can be confident readers and so that their true academic potential can shine through.
