Caitlin McEwan

I teach English, Maths and Reasoning to primary-aged students, and English Language and Literature for secondary school students up to A-Level. I also have considerable experience preparing students for 7+, 8+, 10+ and 11+ entrance exams at a wide variety of London schools, including grammar schools. Many of the students I have worked with have gained places at top London schools, including St Dunstan’s and Emmanuel. I also speak basic French and Italian.

For me, the key difference between 1:1 tutoring and group classes or school teaching is that it can and should feel bespoke. One of the things I really love about working as a tutor is getting to know my students’ personalities and interests, so that I can tailor lessons to make them as engaging and enjoyable as possible, whilst also attending to their specific needs, style and pace of learning. I have experience working with students with dyslexia, dyscalculia and ADHD; I’m a supportive and nurturing tutor whose main goal is to empower my students and help them grow in confidence, hopefully having fun along the way.

Outside of tutoring, I am an actor and playwright; my work has been performed at Soho Theatre and The Royal Court. I carry this creativity into my lessons, as I believe engaging and developing the imagination of my students, and fostering a sense of curiosity in them, is paramount. Additionally, my background in acting means that I’m well-placed to help prepare students for interviews as part of the entrance examination process, and give any general public speaking support where needed.
