BA (1st Class) in French and German from the University of Reading
PGCE in secondary-school modern languages from Oxford University
I’ve worked as a private tutor for seven years, primarily teaching English and maths for 7+, 11+, 13+ and GCSE exams. I’ve also taught English as a foreign language for most of this time, having worked all over the world, and having undertaken periods of volunteer EAL teaching work both abroad and at home. I have also taught French, German and Spanish (the former two being the subjects of my PGCE) on many occasions, whether for support with the subject at school, or as enhancement for a student who wants to stretch themselves.
Finally, in my latter years as a private tutor I have worked as a residential tutor and mentor, focusing on behavioural development, independence and maturity. These roles have often included learning difficulties such as autism, difficulties with executive function, and, particularly, academic anxiety and low self-esteem. This experience has allowed me to hone a natural talent for building relationships with children, and to develop the almost infinite patience necessary to work effectively with children who find it difficult to concentrate.
I am able to tutor students from aged 7 through to GCSE in English, maths and Spanish, and up to A-Level in French and German. I can help students prepare for school entrance exams as above, and am particularly able to support students who struggle with concentration, anxiety or other challenges to their learning.
