After graduating from The University of Bristol with a first in Politics, I began tutoring; I have been a tutor my whole working life and I plan to continue tutoring as it is something I am really passionate about. I am a tutor and mentor for students across a range of subjects, however, I mainly tutor students in English, verbal reasoning and interview skills.
I work with students from 10/11+ through to A Levels. At 10+ and 11+ I typically focus on English and verbal reasoning tuition. I am very experienced in preparing students for the ISEB exams and I also have strong experience in prepping students for the independent and grammar school written papers as well. At GCSE and A Level I focus on the English exam papers. I am passionate about creative writing and the power English gives you to express your creativity; I endeavour to share and pass on my passion to my students – my objective is not just to teach them to pass their exams but to pass on a life-long love of learning and English.
I am particularly compelled to nurture students in their self-expression; both in creative writing and in their oracy /conversational skills. For interview technique my approach is always through encouraging curiosity and excitement when discussing opinions, experiences and self. I find my practice is always about a need to empower a young person beyond that of an upcoming exam or interview. This means that my work equips young people but moves away from the fixation on achievement in just certain aspects of life. I prepare students for interviews for independent school admissions and also for university admissions. I can also work with students to build their confidence with public speaking.
In addition to tutoring, I also work as a writer. I’ve worked independently and in writers’ rooms for stage, film, TV and children’s animation and trained in drama at the National Youth Theatre, Glyndebourne Youth Opera and Oxford School of Drama.
