I have over 43 years of teaching experience in both inner‑city London comprehensive schools and the independent sector. I’ve taught pupils from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and have consistently achieved excellent GCSE and A‑Level History results.
I enjoy teaching History at all levels and helping students build confidence, curiosity, and strong exam technique. My teaching style is efficient, firm, fair, and adaptable. I differentiate work carefully to support less‑confident learners while stretching the most able, and I have extensive experience teaching pupils with English as an additional language. I maintain high standards of behaviour and work, and I am committed to equal opportunities in every aspect of my teaching.
Alongside my classroom work, I’ve always valued the pastoral side of education. I’ve enjoyed being a form tutor and have led assemblies on topics such as Anne Frank for Holocaust Memorial Day and the First World War for Armistice Day, using video, music, and student participation to bring history to life.
As Head of Department, I have written schemes of work, assessment policies, and coordinated departmental resources. My History assessment policy was rated highly by the Islington inspector, reflecting my commitment to clarity and rigour. I regularly use ICT, video, and reputable history websites such as History Today to create engaging, high‑quality resources.
In addition to teaching, I enjoy travelling and am a member of the National Trust, English Heritage, the British Museum, the Courtauld and the Wallace Collection. I like visiting art galleries and am a member of the National Gallery and the Tate. I enjoy Opera and Classical music, especially the composers Sibelius and Mahler.
