I am an American-trained English specialist now living in South London. I have extensive experience teaching English language and literature across multiple curricula, age groups, and educational systems. I have worked as a university professor in the United States and have spent nearly a decade in secondary education in both British and American schools.
Most recently, I held the role of Assistant Head of English and leader of Key Stage 3 English curriculum at an independent boarding school in Oxfordshire. Additionally, I continue to work as a GCSE and IGCSE English literature examiner for Pearson Edexcel.
As a tutor, I am keen to collaborate with motivated pupils of all ages, regardless of ability. I am just as happy to support students developing essential literacy skills as I am in more assessment-focused pursuits, whether that means preparing pupils for 11+ exams, GCSEs, or A-level qualifications. I am also excited by the opportunity to assist university candidates as they draft and tailor personal statements for applications to institutions based either in the UK or abroad.
In terms of my approach to tuition, I believe rapport and mutual engagement are essential. My lessons are characterised by a friendly atmosphere and a rigorous interactive method. I believe that young people learn best when they enjoy what they are doing, and I aim to personalise engaging and enriching tutorial sessions based on individual pupil needs.
I will be starting a post at a leading independent London boys’ school from September 2026.
